Barbecue Season: 6 delicious and easy marinades for chicken on the grill

Summer is synonymous with barbecues! And whenever there’s a barbecue, there’s a chicken to be marinated. It’s easier than you might think to make a delicious, homemade barbecue marinade for your chicken. What’s more, you can store the marinade in your fridge so it’s good to go for the next barbecue!

Chicken marinades are easy to make and taste delicious, especially when used on chicken breasts and skewers. By having a selection of marinades on file, you can switch up the taste of your chicken, so there’s always something new for the guests at your café or restaurant. We’ve compiled a list of 6 of our favourite marinades for barbecued chicken!

Mix all the ingredients together. Flip the chicken in the marinade, and leave to soak for at least 30 minutes. Top tip! To achieve the best result possible, leave the chicken to soak up the marinade in a sealed bag in the fridge for 4-12 hours!


1. Honey/mustard marinade

Ingredients:

  • 3 dl olive oil
  • Lemon juice and zest of 1 organic lemon
  • 2 table spoons Dijon mustard
  • 6 table spoons Acacia honey
  • Chopped parsley as needed
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper

2. Basil/garlic marinade 

Ingredients:

  • 3 dl olive oil
  • 4-5 cloves garlic
  • 2 tablespoons dried or fresh chili
  • Chopped basil as needed
  • 4-6 tablespoons soy sauce
  • Freshly ground pepper
  • A pinch of chili, if desired

3. Ginger/lemon marinade 

Ingredients:

  • 2 dl soy sauce
  • 1 dl white wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ dl lemon juice
  • Grated ginger
  • 2-3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon cumin

4. HOT! Chili marinade 

Ingredients:

  • 2 dl olive oil
  • 5 dl ketchup 
  • 4-5 cloves garlic
  • 4-5 tablespoons dried or fresh chili
  • 1-2 tablespoons Tabasco
  • 4-6 tablespoons soya as desired
  • Freshly ground pepper

5. Teriyaki grill marinade 

Ingredients:

  • 2 dl soy sauce
  • 1 dl white wine vinegar
  • 1-2 tablespoons Acacia honey
  • 2 tablespoons peanut oil
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • Grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 2-3 cloves garlic

6. Euro Poultry Special

Ingredients:

  • 1 dl olive oil
  • 1 dl balsamic vinegar or other vinegar
  • ½ dl Worcestershire sauce or fish sauce
  • ½ dl soy sauce
  • 1 dl brown sugar
  • ¼ dl lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons dried or fresh rosemary
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper
